Full Moon Pictures is releasing THE EVIL CLERGYMAN to DVD on October 9th, available only direct at fullmoondirect.com. The smart money is to wait for their Blu-Ray transfers, with their recent Blu-Ray releases of THE PUPPET MASTER 1-3 and SUBSPECIES. Surprisingly, the Blu-Ray version are affordable starting at $15! I do have to warn you that it took nearly three months for me to get my Puppet Master DVD boxset when I ordered it when it first came out. I had a very bad experience with the online order.
Anyway, I do love RE-ANIMATOR and FROM BEYOND, so it's a no-brainer to try and check out THE EVIL CLERGYMAN. Apparently the 35mm negative was lost in 1988 and the DVD is from a VHS transfer. It's also only 30 minutes. Maybe you can wait for the other 60 minutes and re-release it as PULSPONDERS? For now, it just seems like they want cash in on the Lovecraft festivals and Halloween. >>> In 1987 Charles Band directed "PULSESPONDERS", an anthology film comprised of three 30 minute sequels to the biggest hits of Empire Pictures: "H.P. LOVECRAFT's THE EVIL CLERGYMAN", a "TRANCERS" sequel, and a sequel to "THE DUNGEONMASTER" . "PULSEPOUNDERS" was shot and edited in 1988 before circumstances prevented it from being released. In addition the original 35mm negative for the 3 episodes has never been found. For the last 25 years, fans have been excited to see any footage from this lost treasure. In 2011 a "PULSEPOUNDERS" work print on VHS was discovered. Charles Band and a team of digital experts have been working for the last year digitally restoring it and now in 2012, it is ready to unleash! Richard Band, the composer of classic film scores such as "RE-ANIMATOR" and "PUPPER MASTER" has composed an original lavish 1980's style score for it! The first of the "lost" "PULSEPOUNDERS" episodes to be restored, "H.P.'s Lovecraft's THE EVIL CLERGYMAN" re-unites horror's hottest duo; Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton! "THE EVIL CLERGYMAN" also stars horror legends David Warner and David Gale (Dr. Hill from "RE-ANIMATOR"). The historic cinematic premiere was attended by director Charles Band, stars Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton, and composer Richard Band in Chicago at Flashback Weekend. Screenings have also been arrange for the H.P.Lovecraft festivals in both Los Angeles (Sept 29th, 2012) and Portland. |
